MISE EN SCÈNE

This project aims to reproduce the visual language, composition, and lighting atmosphere of a classical artwork in a modern studio environment using mise-en-scène techniques. The primary focus of the project is to conduct framing analysis, dramatic light management, and professional art direction under limited resources.

Artemisia Gentileschi's 1620 work, "Jael and Sisera," was selected as the primary reference due to its deep shadows, dramatic lighting angles, and powerful composition. Unwanted background details were isolated using black cardboard, and the pillars were modified to harmonize with the painting. Costumes and accessories were modernized using available resources. A key detail in the painting, the sword, was handcrafted using a "cardboard and scissors" technique, demonstrating creative problem-solving skills.

To capture the Chiaroscuro effect of the original work, the main light source was positioned next to the fixed camera, while a second light source hitting the model from a high angle provided depth and sharpness. In the final stage, the characteristic color palette of the classical era was achieved through digital color grading.
